Tips for Freezing Hamburger Meat

July 16, 2010Katie

I usually buy meat in bulk do you?

I’ll buy large packages of chicken breasts or chicken thighs, and portion them out into freezer bags.  It usually saves me some pennies, and also saves me from having to make another trip to the store during the week.

Here’s a little tip for you.  To add room to your freezer space, put your hamburger, ground turkey, pork or other ground meat inside a gallon or quart size freezer bag in one pound portions.  Press it flat with your hands.

Before you start, write the meat name on one corner with a Sharpie marker.  And then stack them up easily on a shelf in your freezer.

This makes your thawing time much quicker as well due to the meat being in a thin layer. And then, you can just pull out a pound or two or whatever you need for your next spaghetti sauce or taco filling.

This is a brilliant tip! BTW, I thought you had not been posting because I didn't see any new posts in my reader for awhile...now I realize the reader has not been refreshing! Gah. Trying to catch up on your posts.

Bunny - I switched my feed over on Feedburner but there may be some quirkiness? Let me know if you don't start seeing it.
