The 12 Days of Christmas Foodie Wish List 2009

December 9, 2009Katie

Okay, I confess.  I’m a Foodie.

What? You didn’t know?

Big shock huh?

With Christmas looming right around the corner, we’ve been having our kids make us wish lists.

I’ve always hated what I thought were “greed lists” and thought they gave all the wrong impressions around Christmas time.  However last year, we took the lists and knocked out our shopping in one night.  Our kids opened their presents with shouts of glee.  It was exactly what they wanted.

And all was well in the Wonderful household.

WHY have I never done wishlists before?

Do you know what a Foodie is? Here’s what Wikepedia has to say about them…

Food amateurs who simply love food for consumption, study, preparation, and news.

Yep that’s, me alright.  Wikepedia hit it dead-center!

Now, if you have a Foodie in your household, don’t send them to a 12-step program.  Use this Foodie 12 Days of Christmas Wish List (that might actually be mine, get it family?)  to make them happy when they open that present under the tree this year.

Day #1  The Microplane Coarse Paddle Grater – ($19.95 Williams-Sonoma)

Microplane’s graters are to-die-for!  Cheese, nutmeg, and citrus zest  just seem to glide through the grate holes.

For that matter, any Microplane grater will do. I already have two of them  -one grates somewhat finer than the other, and I adore both of them.  I couldn’t live without them. Day #2 -The KitchenAid Mixer Beater Blade.  ($19.95 Macy’s).

Ohhhh! I want one!  This blade literally scrapes the bowl as you mix. It is fitted with a hard rubber scraper attached to the paddle to give you hands-free mixing without having to stop and do the pesky scraping down of the sides.  **Sidenote -make sure you get the make and model of your Foodie’s mixer before you order or purchase.  It needs to be an exact fit to work!  There are numerous sizes of bowls for these mixers!

Day #3 – Good knives.  I love the Wusthoff Classic Santoku knife set from Williams-Sonoma ($149.95).

They also throw in this free knife sharpener.

Which they should cuz them knives are expensive!

Too rich for your blood? Try these from Kohls. (KitchenAid $31.99)

Day#4  -A beautiful apron.  (Women only!)  ($39.95 Anthropologie)

This one is actually on sale right now for $19.95 on their website.  Their aprons are darling.  Tori bought me one for Mother’s Day last year.  Also, check out their kitchen towels and linens…gorgeous!

Day #5 – Urbani White Truffle Oil ( $18.15 for 2-pack at Amazon.com)

Oil infused with the delectable flavor of white truffles. Your Foodie can drizzle this over pasta, gourmet pizza or soup for an added deliciousness.  And they’ll be so impressed you actually have a clue as to what it is. (Truffles are not just chocolate.  They are also a very expensive fungus sold for $250-$400 per pound).

Yes, I did say fungus and $400 in the same sentence.

Day #6 Trudeau Electric Pepper Grinder ($24.95 Amazon.com)

Our kids Jason and Lindsay got one of these from her mom.  We went over for dinner the other night and I coveted it all night long.  Just tip this baby over and listen to it softly whir and crack your pepper for you.  No more sore and tired hands!

Day #7 – 5 1/2 Quart Le Creuset Round Dutch Oven ($184 Williams-Sonoma)

No kitchen is complete without one of these.  Cast iron coated with durable, porcelain enamel makes for the most perfect, even-heating in all your dishes.  And doggone it.  It’s gorgeous too!

Can’t shell out the $189?  Try Sam’s Wholesale.  Their Member’s Mark version sells for a measly $38.72.

Day# 8 – How about a Foodie magazine?  Look past the well-known Bon Appetit to others.  Try Cook’s Illustrated (26.95/year Cookingzines.com)

Day #9 – Fluted French Tart Pans ($9.00 Williams-Sonoma)

I’ve been wanting these for awhile.  Make beautiful open face tarts to wow your guests.  The bottom is removable to ensure easy lift-out.

Day #10 – Oxo Good Grips Mixing Bowls ($24.95 Bed Bath & Beyond)

Three different sizes with pourable spouts and non-slip bottoms.  Their soft handles make these bowls a great choice for any chef-at-home.

Day #11 – Chalk Talk Glassware ($15.96 set of 4 at worldmarket.com)

These dishwasher-safe glasses have chalkboards on them to write guest’s (or in my case – teenagers!) names so everyone knows which glass is theirs throughout the day/night.  LOVE these!

Day #12 – An Appetizer Caddy Set ($60 Pampered Chef)

Set out up to 12 appetizer plates in one pretty stack on this elegant caddy.  And see that silver ball at the top of the caddy?  It holds a note card to let folks know what you’re serving.

I’m having a Pampered Chef party at my house tomorrow and will probably walk away with one of these babies.

I hope you love these ideas.  There’s a little something from super inexpensive to way pricey.  If you love a Foodie, truly make them happy by getting them one or more of these items.

Hello Family?

Are you reading?

How about you? Are you a Foodie and what is on your Wish List?

Great list! Sadly, I have most of these having been a foodie for a while! :) I appreciate, being currently unemployed, that you supplied low-cost options, as well. LOVE the chalkboard glassware! My high-end wish list is: -An All-Clad stainless steel skillet -A Kitchen Aid mixer -A mid-size Cuisinart food processor My low-end list is: -An Emile Henry ruffled pie dish -New baking sheets and a muffin tin -A honing steel for my Wusthof knives Luckily, I have a Williams-Sonoma outlet about 15 minutes from my house, so I can often find some good deals. I love your blog, btw--found you through Pastor Ryan (this is Reverb).

Ooohhh. Fellow foodie here. I also compiled a "gift guide for the foodie and health/fitness nut in your life." Anthropologie anything is almost always on my list. I must buy those chalk talks though! Thanks for the idea. Happy Cookin.
