Never mind that they won the Gazette’s “Best Upscale Restaurant” award last year (voted for by you the fans), never mind that the Thunder loves to frequent their establishment, along with other visiting celebraties (SNL’s Chris Kattan just dined there this week). If you didn’t know all of that, know this… Mickey Mantle’s Steakhouse serves fabulous food. Our first visit to Mickey Mantle’s Steakhouse made us huge fans of their cuisine and the restaurant. The food was fabulous, the staff was remarkably friendly and we couldn’t wait to feature them on our show again. That time my friends is now. Tomorrow morning on Rise & Shine, Executive Chef Daniel Nemec will be there cooking up something fabulous at 7:15 a.m. Please join us and also grab yourself a $50 gift certificate for only $25. Act quickly, these sold out in 2-3 minutes last time! This trip we are featuring the newly renovated #7 Lounge. Due to the skyrocketing volume of diners waiting outside, the restaurant decided to purchase the space left by a departing burger joint next door and renovated it beautifully to become a gorgeous lounge complete with 2 bars, tables and curtained booths. The curtains around the booths can even be drawn for privacy which I love. Oh! And please note that the full menu from the restaurant is available at the #7 Lounge as well! So, on to our visit. I noted immediately that the bar was quite busy with people bustling in and out, stopping in for a drink after work as we walked in. We settled into one of the classy curtained booths with a couple of their lovely cocktails to sample. I got this Garden of Eden mix of fresh lemon, lime and grapefruit juices mixed with simple syrup, citrus vodka and some tasty muddled basil leaves. The flavors in this were divine…Mr. W took one sip and wanted one for himself. Being a fan of basil, I loved the overwhelming flavor of this herb in a drink with the sourness of the citrus. Mr. Wonderful also received something special for him along with something extra special for both of us. His drink was the Red Light, which was fashioned out of guava nectar, lime juice, simple syrup, vodka and fresh strawberries. And arriving alongside of this was this magnificent Shrimp Ceviche with homemade corn tortilla chips. Want a fresh and bright appetizer that is delicious, healthy and “wows” your taste buds? This is the one…I would order this for my meal anytime. It is wonderful! Shrimp, tomatoes, onions and cilantro are topped with a fresh citrus dressing that has hints of chilies and the whole thing is capped off with a good portion of chopped avocado and lime. We split this and it was a great portion of food. Arriving next was this beautiful salad. This my friends, is the Blueberry Spinach Salad and it was a salad lover’s dream. It had fresh blueberries, bacon, julienne of pears, caramelized onions, bleu cheese and candied walnuts with a garlic balsamic vinaigrette. As a major salad freak, this was heaven. I love salads that stray out of the norm, and this satisfied me on so many levels. Sweet, sour salty and fruity all wrapped up on one lovely plate, I loved this. We had a lovely glass of wine with the appetizer and salad…a King Fu Girl Reisling that we truly loved. Mickey’s has an extensive wine list you can view here. Next up was Mickey’s classic Cesar Salad. This was a basic Cesar salad but Mickey’s does it well. It’s all in the dressing baby and Mickey’s is great. Mickey’s entrees are always magnificent, so I wondered what they’d bring us. Mr. Wonderful received this incredibly tender Bone-In-Filet. Of the two of us, I typically prefer the seafood end of things at Mickey’s but I have to tell you that I took one bite of this steak and rolled my eyes in happiness. This steak is tender, juicy and buttery soft. I might have been a tad bit jealous of this one for once. And for a healthy man with an appetite? He couldn’t finish it. Okay, granted we had a lot of food, but still. And it came with this…a giant bowl of sauteed mushrooms. I could have just had these for a meal, but instead, I received this work of art. The Applewood Smoked Bacon Berkshire Pork Chop. Berkshire pork is prized for its juiciness and tenderness as well as its wonderful flavor. And when you wrap it in 4 large slices of applewood smoked bacon, grill it, and then glaze it with a brown maple butter? Oh, but wait, then you pile it on top of a bed of braised chopped apples and cabbage? Major comfort food. This portion was very large, and would satisfy the most ardent of appetites. Just look at this…it makes my mouth water even right now. I had this lovely Orin Swift Cellars “The Prisoner” red wine with my Berkshire Chops.. But there was more to be had. Like sides. Mickey Mantles always offers an array of incredible side dishes. There was Potatoes Au Gratin. Cheesy goodness, buttery potato slices and a crispy bread crumb topping made these exceptionally great to accompany our entrees. And most who know me, know I am a risotto lover. But Lobster Risotto? I could eat this every night. Perfectly cooked risotto with chunks of tender lobster. Heaven. Pure heaven. Mickeys always […]
