Kitchen Haulin Again – Gifts from the Mom's

December 29, 2009Katie

My mom had sent me a check for Christmas.  Yesterday, Mr. Wonderful and I hit the mall.  I also had the Williams-Sonoma gift card burning up like fire in my wallet.

I browsed through that store and coveted everything in there…until of course, I looked at the prices.  Did you know a large Silpat mat costs over fifty bucks? Holy cow!

Anyway, I always longingly linger around the Le Creuset area, and just in case you’re wondering, it’s pronounced La CrewSAY.  Le Creuset cookware is enamel coated cast-iron and is the king-daddy of their breed, as it heats your cooking perfectly and evenly, goes from oven to microwave to refrigerator in a snap and is just beautiful to look at.

The price tag, however, is not.

I wandered into our local TJ Maxx tonight looking for a simple white blouse for work.  I found a whole shelf of Le Creuset, just sitting there in its glory, waiting to be plucked from their perch.

I got these.

Adorable butter dish ($25.00 retail, I got for $12.99), 2 different size casseroles (retail $140, and I got each for $12.99) and and some ramekins ($9.95 for one, I got 2/$6.99).  I’m still watching for the 5 1/2 quart dutch oven.

Total price tag? Under fifty bucks..and it matches my kitchen.

SCORE!

I love a good bargain.

And I love classic things that you can keep forever.

Mom, I spent my money  wisely, be assured.

My Mom-In-Law Wonderful made me the cutest table runner.

She quilts beautifully.  She’s also doing some gorgeous monogramming on shirts and …

Towels.

Ready for this?

I love it!

The kids have already been threatened that if they actually use this towel, they’re dead meat.  It’s hanging on my buffet table as a decoration.

Thanks to both my moms for the gifts…

I sure do love them!

TJ Maxx/Home Goods/Marshall's are great for scoring cookware deals, esp. Le Creuset deals! I bought a square and small rectangular porcelain baker (for around the same price you did) AND a cast iron brassiere (for less than $100!) at varying times at one of these stores. Also, I would recommend you go for the 7 quart dutch oven if you can. I bought a 5.5 and found it a little small when making big batches of soups/stews (hard to stir) or an oversized roast/fowl. The 7 quart gives you a little more "elbow room."
