How to Plant Potatoes in Towers #2

May 5, 2016Katie

I thought I’d give you an update on our Potato Tower experiment.

Sometime around the end of March, or about 4-5 weeks after we planted the seed potatoes (we planted on February 20th), we started to see wee little leaves popping out of the hay on the sides and the top of the towers!

I was so excited!

I don’t know why? Maybe because I didn’t believe it was going to work?

But it did!

We continued to water the towers with about 1-2 inches of water per week.

This was about 3 weeks later on April 17th.

And this was a few days ago (about May 1st). You can see our towers over to the left of the picture by the fence.

We still have some progress to be made on our towers. The potatoes need to flower and then the foliage needs to turn brown before it’s time to dump them out. I will keep you updated!
