Easy Spice Rub
Recently my Mom-in-law gifted us with a smoker she had hanging around in her shed, and wasn’t using.
I must confess, I (we) have had no experience whatsover with a smoker, so this weekend, we gave it our first go.
This is how we made our first BBQ rub ..ever. And I thought it was really good.
- 1 cup of brown sugar
- ¼ cup paprika
- 2 T. salt
- 2 T. Pepper
- 2 t. cayenne pepper
- ¼ c. chili powder
- 1 T. garlic powder
- 1T.onion powder
- 1 t. cumin.
- Mix all together and store in airtight container.
In a bowl mix together 1 cup of brown sugar, 1/4 cup paprika, two tablespoons each of salt and pepper, 2 teaspoons cayenne pepper, 1/4 cup chili powder, one tablespoon each of garlic powder and onion powder and 1 teaspoon of cumin.
Take a whisk and stir this up really well.
And sprinkle some over your meat…we did ribs and chicken thighs.
Then take your hands and …don’t be shy now!
Massage this stuff right into the meat.
That’s why it’s called a rub…get it?
And then, grill or smoke away!
I loved the combination flavors of the sweet, smoky and the bit of kick from the cayenne.
This made enough to coat three large racks of pork spareribs and about 10 chicken thighs. If you have leftover spice rub, you can store it for months in a jar or airtight container on a shelf!
Happy Grilling!
