Daddy Hinkle's and New York Strip Steak – a Perfect Pairing
My husband is a very happy man tonight.
We have been introduced to Daddy Hinkle’s All Natural Seasoning and Rubs.

Back to Daddy Hinkle’s. I’ve been talking to Lee over at Daddy Hinkle’s, inquiring where locally I might find their delectable wonders. Armed with a selection of them, we got to work trying them out.
I stopped by the market on the way home from work and picked up a few beautiful New York strips for Mr. Wonderful and I for dinner.
We decided to try the Original. I’ve typically found the Original in anything is the best. You can try to change it, modify it, add to it, but the Original is the bomb and needs no comparison. Think of Birkenstocks, Hermes, Julia Child and the first Rocky movie…imitations and sequels haven’t compared.
I think I’m gonna be wrong though where Daddy Hinkle’s is concerned.
If the other marinades and rubs are even half as good as this one, I’m in love.
There are many variations like Southwest, Hotter ‘n $700, Spicy Pepper, Cumin & Oregano…you just need to visit their site and check them out.
We used the Original, like I said. It has salt, sugar, garlic, onion, black pepper, paprika, celery seed, red pepper, papain, and the kicker – turmeric. I love turmeric in the spice kingdom!
Daddy Hinkle’s is a local based Oklahoma company (Yay!). It’s founder James Frank Hinkle, aka “Daddy Hinkle”, with the help of his wife Zula, “doctored up their steaks” with the spices we now have in their products. Anyone who had them was in awe, and in 1994 they began marketing their blend.
Let me give you a taste of how their product is.
First you take the marinade and sprinkle it over your meat.
Make sure you get it on both sides.
I noted later that “a little goes a long way” and maybe I used too much?
Of course, if you know me, there is no such thing as “too much”.
Next take the companion rub and “dust” or sprinkle the meat with it.
Grill your meat to whatever makes you smile.
He makes me smile, whether he’s grilling or just doing any ol’ thing.
Remove your steak to a platter.
Are you salivating yet? Look at the spices on those babies! See that yellow color? That’s the turmeric…I told you it was good!
Let rest for 5-10 minutes. If you cut it right away, all your lovely juices will run all over your plate. We want to keep the juices in the steak. Loosely tent it with foil to keep the heat in. I never knew this when I was younger, but never cut your steak to check its doneness either, use a meat thermometer. Otherwise , you lose the juices again!
