I have tried all the ways to store basil, since I I have tried all the ways to store basil, since I plant upwards of 20+plants in my garden.

I’ve tried wrapping it in a damp paper towel in a baggie in the refrigerator (gets black spots) and many other ways.

The way it lasts the longest over here is to stick the stems, barely touching (I missed trimming the long loner one!) the water in a vase or jar and leaving it out on the counter.

The added benefit is that your kitchen smells AMAZING!

Garden update! (And recipe!) Beets! We planted o Garden update! (And recipe!)

Beets!

We planted one entire raised bed full of beets this year!

We needed to harvest them yesterday to make room to put in peppers. What a beautiful plant! The bright green leaves with red gems and veins are so pretty! If anyone knows why a couple of the beets ended up bright red with a white interior please share your thought?

We knew we wanted to roast them and, oh my gosh, the ones straight from the garden are so much sweeter than the ones you buy in the store!

I kept looking at the leaves, thinking “what can we do with those?” so after a bit of googling, we decided to make a salad with the greens as our base. Mr. wonderful shredded them ribbon style.

. Did you know beet greens are actually a superfood and almost healthier than kale? They are tender like spinach and have a wonderful sweet earthy flavor, and provide so many nutrients.

We now have bags of them in the freezer to add to smoothies and soups. so don’t throw away those beet tops people!

I re-created one of my favorite salads with the greens and we had it last night with some simple roast chicken. Absolutely delicious!

Dear Denis Johnstonbaugh. Today is 18 years. 18 ye Dear Denis Johnstonbaugh. Today is 18 years. 18 years of learning to love you more and better every day, and still wanting to hold your hand always. It’s finding ways to find oneness with you on all levels- spiritually, emotionally, romantically and all the other things. I think our greatest testament is loving God together every day and don’t know how anyone goes without that. I am thankful that you pray with me each morning, and that we serve in ministry together. I never knew many years ago marriage could be this rich❤️ I love you so much! Happy Anniversary sweetheart!
This is a great example of why you should not put This is a great example of why you should not put your garden plants out too soon.

“Stunting“ happens when you put your plants out and the nights are still too cool.

The first picture shows plants in our greenhouse that have been temperature controlled.

The second picture are some tomato plant babies my husband stuck in a pot because he could not bear to throw them away.

Both were Initially planted at the same time in the greenhouse. The coffee container is for size reference to show the difference.

These have been outside maybe 3 weeks?

What a difference!
I will go out on a limb and say @fridasouthwest is I will go out on a limb and say @fridasouthwest is one of the TOP 10 places you MUST dine when coming to #OKC.

We brunched here today for a pre-anniversary date.

Their attention to detail and flavor is admirable. From the blankets and heaters on the lovely patio to the baby pink and blue restrooms.

Hands down, my FAV Chicken and Waffles (that bacon jam and maple hot honey!) I’ve tasted in awhile, and the Seafood Tamale is refined and brings in southwest deliciousness.

My only nitpick would be to serve it with an added spoon (you can bet I asked for one) in a shallow bowl to sip up every drip of the sherry cream sauce! The green Chile tamale was incredible.
Maybe it was the deviled eggs at Easter, but we we Maybe it was the deviled eggs at Easter, but we were craving egg salad sandwiches today.

Take a lot of work off your hands by using an egg slicer. Slice an egg one way, then grab the whole thing and turn it 90° and do it again. Psssst… also use this gadget to slice mushrooms and strawberries quickly!
Voilà!

Nicely chopped eggs so quickly!

I love mine purely made with mayonnaise and a little Dijon, a sprinkle of sugar, salt, and pepper.

Also, I love a good nutty seeded bread but not for this! It has to be soft bread not toasted.

Mr. Wonderful likes his with sweet relish.

How do you like yours? I really think it’s the way your mom made it when you were growing up. It’s a memory comfort food thing for me.
