Last night was our first visit to an Oklahoma City restaurant for my new segment on KAUT43. I was thrilled that Paseo Grill accepted being my first restaurant, as I happen to love them and it is one of our very favorite places to dine.
You’ll hear more about the food a little later in the week, but I wanted to show you just a taste of the behind-the-scenes with Chef Jason Heald.
First off, I had no idea he’d look so young (he’s older than you think!).
But man, can he cook some amazing food. I have three words for you.
Chilean Sea Bass.
Possibly the best thing I’ve ever tasted.
Chef Heald started out at Paseo Grill as the sous chef, where he learned everything he knows from the former chef he worked under. He took a different, more creative route than what his family believed he would take – that of a lawyer.
Chef Heald was very patient and just kept right on cooking and plating while Mr. Wonderful and I snapped pictures of him. I don’t know if I could cook under that kind of scrutiny.
And he was so informative about his dishes. You could tell he loves creating his food. I loved listening to him describe the ingredients he finds – meats, produce, cheeses, and wines. He took pride in telling me that he tries to get the freshest and best of everything – complete with having fish flown in daily from the coast. Speaking of flying food in and out, their Cream of Mushroom Soup is so fabulous people pay to have it flown out to California.
We had this soup last night. I can attest to it being fabulous.
Much like an artist paints a canvas, Chef Heald took careful care to make each dish beautiful as well as delicious.
I’m pretty sure I have him talked into coming on the show with me when Paseo Grill is featured on July 14th.
You won’t want to miss him.
