The Country Mice & The City Mice
Mr. Wonderful and I recently took a few days and ran away together. Just us, no kids, no dogs, no schedules.
It was wonderful.
If you’re a married couple, I can’t stress enough how important it is for you as a couple to make sure you have some time together alone.
We try to do a once-a-week date nite. This doesn’t have to be a full blown money free-for-all. Sometimes we just go to Borders and look at books and magazines. Sometimes we go out in our boat with a picnic. Be creative and just get away from the TV, computer and cell phones.
Talk….get reacquainted with one another. Share your weekly frustrations, dreams or just learn to snuggle again.
We chose on our runaway weekend for night #1 to go to a (very) rustic cabin near Turner Falls. Notice the look of trepidation on Mr. W’s face.
We packed a cooler full of steaks, potatoes, eggs, sausage and enough food for our dinner that night and our breakfast the next morning.
Our cabin was a one room cabin complete with a bed, couch, kitchenette and bathroom.
Okay so Mr. Wonderful didn’t really get the part about shutting off the TV for awhile.
We cooked on this contraption outside our cabin. Mr. W loved this and wants one in our backyard.
He made us some fabulous steaks.
And we went and checked out the scenery, including the falls.
In Oklahoma, we don’t have much scenery to look at, so we really try to play it up when there is some.
Now look again at this picture. Pay attention to the lines of the bed.
Needless to say, this bed was not even flat, and that night, we spent one long night (complete with thunderclaps from a storm to awaken us) rolling to the center of this bed. I mean, you could feel the bed frame through the mattress, the air-conditioning wasn’t cooling off, and there is no thing worse than rolling to the center of the bed…
That is, unless, you’re super warm and really don’t want bodily contact.
So once we fell asleep, we woke up at 10:15 a.m. and our check-out was 11:00 a.m. Mr. Wonderful furiously began making breakfast, as I started to gather our stuff up to pack in the car.
And we hurredly checked out leaving feeling just a tad bit grumpy.
And that was our countrified experience. Much less romantic than I’d dreamed of.
Then we headed south -to Dallas.
Where we checked into the Hyatt Regency DFW.
And they have the most amazing beds you’ve ever slept in. I don’t want to say Mr. Wonderful was happy with the beds, but….
The room was beautiful and generously-sized.
The amenities wonderful.
The bathrooms? Niceeeee!
And we could see this beautiful heated pool from the balcony of our hotel room. Yes I said balcony.
We also worked out at the hotel gym, which housed rows of elipticals and treadmills and a glass fronted refrigerator (that kind of looked like a wine chiller) of chilled towels to put on your face and neck when you were heated up.
We slept all night in the king-sized Grand Hyatt bed which had the most amazing mattress I believe I’ve ever slept on. Complete with crisp white sheets, a duvet covered with another crisp white sheet and these giant fluffy but firm pillows.
I couldn’t have one of these at home. I’d never want to get up and go to work.
And I haven’t even showed you what we ate in Dallas yet.
So after playing country mice and city mice. The clear winner was….
The city.
Which do you think you’d prefer?
