Let me apologize now for the massive numbers of posts I’ll do on Thanksgiving over the next couple of weeks.
I adore Thanksgiving.
Julie, over at Another Chance Ranch, who has a wonderful blog offered a challenge I just couldn’t pass up. I was supposed to do this on Monday, but, better late than never…right? Here was the question…
Tell us about your Thanksgiving Day meal. Do you have your menu planned? Do you have the traditional turkey dinner, or go a bit more non-traditional? What is your favorite go-to dish for Thanksgiving? Any recipes you’d like to share?
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, hands down. It comes during my favorite season and time of the year. I love the cool fall weather, the leaves all over my backyard, the return of pajama pants and hoodies and slippers after a scorching summer.
And I take the entire week off of work to prepare for our Thanksgiving meal. We make old favorites. There are things we must make every year. And we try new things, bringing about an ecclectic mix of tried and trusted favorites with a few new sides and desserts to keep things interesting.
Here are some thoughts on what I want to make this year. Click on any picture to go to the recipe if you’re interested!
This year I want to make this again for an appetizer because I truly love the flavors that scream “fall produce and herbs”!
We’ll have to have Mulled Crockpot Cider, partly for the wonderful smell it imparts throughout the house and just because we love it.
And for a new side, I have fallen in love with either Spaghetti Sqash or Butternut Squash with Spicy Sage Butter.
I always like to serve a green salad and this fall salad with cranberries and goat cheese fits the bill!
And of course we’ll have turkey. But it’s the sides that we all love. Sides like Sweet Potato Crunch – my kids favorite!
Sides like Green Beens Almondine.
And of course we’ll make Green Bean Casserole and Corn Casserole and Pumpkin Pie and Pecan Pie. And we may even make these again cuz they were a big hit!
Most importantly, I am excited about having a week off, being with those I love and cozying up to a fire with Mr. Wonderful on Thanksgiving night.
I can’t wait! How about you? Do you eat Traditional Thanksgiving each year or do you change things up? Leave me a comment and visit Julie’s blog to read about other ladies stories on this subject.
