Quest for Crockpot Recipes

July 23, 2012Katie

I am on a quest to find great crockpot recipes on account of….

#1  It would be nice to have a hot meal ready when you get home from work.

#2  It’s insanely hot here.

I’m serious!  It’s so hot here, you can’t hold onto the steering wheel after you park your car outside for more than 10 minutes and don’t even attempt to wear shorts and get in a car with leather seats! OUCH!

Temperatures are pushing 100+ degrees right now and having the oven on is just yukky.

If you have a favorite crockpot recipe, I’d love for you to share it in the comments below!  Healthy and non-creamed soups ones would be especially appreciated!

Calico Beans Brown 1/4 lb bacon cut up 1 lb lean ground beef 1 medium onion chopped Combine with 1 large can pork and beans 1 can kidney beans, drained 1 can butter beans, drained (original recipes called for can of lima beans but my family hates lima beans) Add 1/2 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup catsup 2 TBSP vinegar 1/2 tsp salt Cook on low. I use crock pot liners because sauce will carmelize on sides and can be hard to clean. Original recipes from Our Favorite Recipes, Willing Workers Society, Ellsworth County, Kansas , 1981

I made this pulled pork the other night and my husband ate several...(4!!!) burgers. Pretty delish! 2.5 lb boneless pork loin roast (center cut, trimmed of all fat) 2 tsp red wine vinegar 2 tsp Hickory liquid smoke 1 tsp garlic powder (I used 2 fresh garlic cloves) 1 tsp sea salt 1 cup favorite BBQ Sauce 1 cup chopped onion 1 chopped green pepper Put all ingredients in crockpot on low 6 to 8 hours. When Pork is done take out and shred then return to crockpot for 30 more minutes to warm.

This is the only crockpot recipe I have????? I think I need to bust it out b/c that is a great idea for not heating up the kitchen (and having dinner ready when you get home). http://eliotseats.com/?p=8559

My bad. I actually reread this recipe. I guess this wasn't a crockpot recipe BUT it could easily be adapted. If you are getting local okra though, this is a great one: http://eliotseats.com/?p=1713 And, you can stock your freezer for winter (and easy meals when you get home).

Oops. I just saw you were looking for non-creamed recipes. We use low-fat cream cheese, so it is kinda healthy, though!
