My Girls

July 8, 2010Katie

My two girls.

The older blond with a penchant for frilly dresses and spiked high heels. She loves all things to do with hair, makeup and glitz and glamour.

She’s also gifted with some great smarts.  Studying has never been hard for her and testing has always been a snap for her.

The other- the redhead, prefers skinny jeans, flats and a t-shirt.  We can’t get her to put on mascara or much other make-up but she’s very comfortable in her own skin.  That is her beauty.

She has to work harder at school, struggles with testing, but continues to work hard at whatever she does.

Except cleaning her room.

Moving on, as different as they are, they have always been close.

Today, they’re discussing music, a joint interest that they’re both good at in their own unique individual ways.

One sings worship and plays the acoustic guitar (the redhead), and the other sings hip-hop.  We call her Fergie.

But they’ve always been sisters, and oh so close.  They’ve wrestled together and laughed together.

What do the men in our family think about them?

Well, they try to pay attention to their silliness.

They really, really try.

But somehow, the guys just don’t get the closeness of the two girls and they get lost.

Max has a problem keeping his tongue in his mouth

I know they make me wish I had a sister.

Do you have a sister?  Are you close or not close? Wish you had one?  Have I missed out?  Leave a comment below to share your thoughts!

I have one but she lives far from me and is *too busy* for me. She would say she isn't but she has consistently made me feel that she is and my hubby has taken to telling me to stop trying because he hates watching me get hurt. (And although this is filled with honesty ... and pain ... I would never say it on my blog because my mother reads that quite often and I have no desire to cause problems.) But I long for a sister and a friend like your girls have and I'm still waiting for life to bring me one. ... Gosh ... way to be a bummer Beth! Love you, Katie!

We can DEFINITELY be sisters! We need to figure out a weekend when we can do something together. Nothing fancy! Bert and I can drive over and stay in a hotel or something and we can go out to eat, maybe go to the Chinese Market, you can show me how to use the mandoline, etc. It would be fun!

I'm so sorry! I guess it's all my fault! But -- I had FIVE sisters -- and we had such good times together. Especially our sister weeks at the cottage from 1980 to 2005!

Beautiful story, Katie, beautiful girls! As for sisters, I am so thankful for mine :) And remember, even though you have no sisters, you have more girl cousins than most!!!

My sister is 7 years older than I; growing up we were not really close - more like 2 "only children". But we are finally on an even keel = both are "empty-nest" grandmothers, so we have a lot in common. Now we are best friends, and cruise Turner Turnpike to see each other. We now have the same taste in a lot of areas, and end up with the same haircut and/or similar clothes when we see each other. We take "girls'weekends", "couples' trips", and road trips together as often as possible>

Oh Katie! I heard you were a "foodie" over the weekend! So of course I had to look you up. I have spent the past 2 hrs watching your show on rise and shine and reading your blog. Wow is all I can say. How talented you are! I have a love for food, cooking, and gardening but not near as crafty and talented as you. Loved this about your daughters. It is an awesome thing to have daughters so close. Mine are as well. And opposite. The Older is a brunette, and of course you know Davia is a blonde. She is the younger. I had a younger sister but we never had that close bond. I think that is why I am so grateful my girls are. I haven't even seen a quarter of what you have posted so I look forward to more reading! And now I know where to go with questions... On cooking of course..;) Terri
