Lilacs at Last!

April 7, 2011Katie

I adore lilacs.  They are up there with tulips, peonies and begonias as some of my favorite flowers.  My parents’ yard in Michigan was bordered with them when I was growing up and I use to love the smell of them breezing through the open windows.  Sometimes I would cut them and put them in a vase and put them on my windowsill to intensify the smell.

We’ve been in our current house now for almost 5 years and just as this little lilac bush would start to bloom, we’d inevitably get a freeze and it would never finish blooming.

But not this year.

And I am happy…very happy.

I'm delighted that you are happy! I ... am sneezing long distance! I was at a church conference once in the spring and a lady brought in lilacs to add ambiance (or some such thing). A few minutes later I began having trouble breathing. Pretty pictures though!

We had a purple lilac bush in our backyard in MI too! I cut small clippings and put them in a vase on the kitchen table. That smell is unforgettable. Miss that wonderful fragrance
