Kitchen No. 324

February 12, 2013Katie

It’s been awhile since I remember anticipating a restaurant opening.    Anytime a Good Egg Dining restaurant opens, bless Keith and Heather Paul’s food loving hearts, I get giddy, but for some reason, when hearing about Kitchen No. 324 opening, I got really, really excited.

Maybe it was because Sheri Guyse and Keith Paul posted 3000 Instagrams of the goodness that was to come.  I mean, how many pictures of homemade bacon, and freshly baked cupcakes and pastries can you see before you’re literally ready to beat down the doors to taste some great cuisine?

So when we headed out for Kitchen’s soft opening, I must say I had some expectations.

Like for one, their baked goods…which peek out of a glass case just enticing you to sink your teeth into their sweet fresh baked wonder.  Imagine Panera with class…that’s what the bakery counter at Kitchen will say to you.

Here’s how it stacks up at Kitchen 324.

First off, it’s located on the floor level of the “still in process” renovated (by Sandridge Energy) historical Braniff building.

Built in 1924, this old beauty is registered to the National Register of Historic Places and its charm becomes an opposing mix of freshly modern and classic vintage charm that soothes and invigorates at the same time.  It’s a good mix that you’ll like.

So you walk in, and to your right will be a counter to order from.  Grab a menu (breakfast, lunch or brunch) and depending on the time of day, order breakfast or lunch (they are closed at dinner time).

We made our first visit at lunch time and I saw an assortment of orders being set out by the kitchen staff.

Of course that bottom right concoction intrigued the Wonderful guy and he ordered it immediately…the Fried Chicken Pot Pie…and HANDS DOWN..it’s the most fabulous chicken pot pie we’ve ever tasted. We’ll get to that in a bit.

Always looking to satisfy my vegetable cravings, I ordered the Grilled Vegetable Sandwich.

IMG_0033

If you’re a vegetarian, or if like me, you just simply adore roasted vegetables, you will LOVE this sandwich.

It has grilled eggplant, red and yellow peppers, arugula along with a huge grilled portabella mushroom and comes with a toasted pressed bun.  Again…really scrumptious.

Kayla tried the Honey Roasted Carrots and they were yummy as well!

Also because I’m such a veggie addict and because Sheri suggested it, I tried some of the Untraditional Sides.  You’re going to love the sides at Kitchen 324 like Quinoa with Apples and Squash, Fall Succotash and Idaho and Sweet Potato Chips with Sea Salt.

‘If you adore lemon like me you might like this salad… The Shaved Asparagus Arugula Salad with Preserved Lemon Vinaigrette (preserved lemons are lemons that have been brined or pickled in their own juices and salt).

If you love lemon and asparagus, you will love this.   It’s crunchy and bright and lemony fresh.

I also had the Brussel Sprout, Hazelnut.

IMG_0038

Not reading the menu carefully, I guessed those little round things to be chickpeas, but they actually are hazelnuts and the crunch of them mixed with the roasted sprouts, and the red onions were wonderful.

I also snatched a taste of my friend Kristy’s (from T an Urban Tea House) Israeli Cous Cous Salad with Mushrooms and Feta.

Mr. Wonderful of course couldn’t resist that Fried Chicken Pot Pie.

He carelessly threw his tie over his shoulder and dove in…

I did manage to score a bite and I reiterate again…BEST chicken pot pie I’ve ever had. This will be their big seller for a long time.  I still crave it right now…and we went this morning for brunch and I’ve already tasted it again.

Rich and decadent with a thyme laden cream sauce and a thick and wonderful crust, the added benefit of a crispy (and nicely done!) chicken leg perched a top of it just puts it over the top. Cream and thyme are the best of partners in any sauce…and the entire thing just is comfort food at its very best. I highly recommend a bite of the crispy chicken leg mixed with a bite of the creamy wonder of the pie together…it’s just…

Unbelievably delicious.

He also ordered a bowl of the Classic Navy Bean soup.

RICHLY flavored with speck (a juniper spiked ham), this was really hearty and good.

Brunch or breakfast is equally wonderful.  This afternoon after church, we headed over and were anticipating trying the Fried Green Tomato Eggs Benedict.  At noon, they were already sold out, the place was packed, and we ended up waiting a good 20 minutes or so after ordering for a table to open up.

I guess the news is out.  This place is good.

I ordered the Kitchen Green Eggs and Ham.

This was a split homemade English muffin spread with pesto and layered with prosciutto, arugula and topped off with 2  poached eggs.

Alongside of it was their “Crispy Potatoes”.

Mr. Wonderful, when finally getting over his lamenting of not being able to have the Fried Green Tomato Eggs Benedict, ordered the Open Faced Toast.

Again, another homemade English muffin was topped with shaved Black Forest Ham, two poached eggs and this time smothered in a thyme bechamel sauce and again complimented by those roasted crispy potatoes.

One really cool thing about Kitchen is that they have a coffee bar at the other end of the restaurant.

They serve up individually dripped coffee that is wonderful. The fact that they serve Madcap Coffee from my stomping grounds of the state of Michigan just makes me happy as well.  If things aren’t coming from Oklahoma, the next  best place is my home state!

Mr. Wonderful and I both ordered a Mocha Latte.

IMG_0018

And hipster chick ordered the Chai Latte.

And if you’re there for breakfast or just coffee and a snack…the baked goods display will leave you drooling…

One more thing…if you’re lucky enough to be there when Coconut Cream Pie is available…GET IT!
