How to Follow or Suscribe to Your Favorite Blogs

July 29, 2010Katie

So, in case you haven’t figured it out, this is a blog.

A food blog, to be more specific, because I mainly post about all things food.

Do you love to read the same blog(s) every day?  Do you have a pile of them stacking up in your favorites folder?  And then it gets frustrating because you have to click on all those favorite addresses just to see if your favorite blogger has updated that day, or even that week.

There are some neat tools you can use to help you quickly determine if the blogs you read have added a new post (a post is an article) since you’ve last read the blog in question.

* Subscribe by e-mail – Most bloggers have an e-mail subscription form on the the right or left side of their page where you can enter your e-mail address and receive an e-mail each time the blogger posts a new blog.  Mine is setup to where even if I post 3 times in a day, you still only get one e-mail.  You can read the post right in your e-mail or you can  click on the blog post title in the e-mail and go to the site to read.

*Subscribe by RSS –Suscribe to the blog by clicking on something that looks like this:

This will take you to a page that says something to the effect of ”

You are viewing a feed that contains frequently updated content. When you subscribe to a feed, it is added to the Common Feed List. Updated information from the feed is automatically downloaded to your computer and can be viewed in Internet Explorer and other programs. Learn more about feeds.

It will direct you to either add to your IGoogle or add to your Google Reader (or other reader). You will have to set up an account in Google Reader or whatever  Reader you choose to use.  A “Reader” is basically something that manages the blogs you read. When you subscribe to one or several blogs, you can log into your reader daily and see a running list of them. Usually on the left hand side of the screen are the blog names. When you click on a blog name -to the right, all the latest blog posts that the author has read show up. If you haven’t read one, it shows up in bold, and if you’ve read it, it isn’t bold.

It’s simple to create a reader account. There are many to choose from but I use Google Reader (just Google the words Google Reader, click on the first link that comes up and go to that page and follow the instructions to set one up for yourself). Then I log into reader.google.com each day and my reader comes up.

It’s that simple.

Any questions? Just leave a comment, and I’ll try to help you!
