Drive down SW 29th Street in Oklahoma City, and you’ll start to notice something you don’t see around normally. (**Editor note – currently Hot Dog Locos has a truck and is only available for events – please call the number at the bottom of the post!)

Food trucks.

Street food.  I love it.

The food truck craze of late is sweeping the nation, but on SW 29th Street, I think they’ve been around for a long time  Most of them are taco trucks. I  am still trying to get a group of people to go with me on a taco truck tour some evening.

One block East of Agnew on SW 29th Street look to the North side of the road in the parking lot of Martinez Tire’s, you’ll see a food umbrella cart.

This food cart belongs to Noel and Sandra Valdez and they make some amazing hot dogs.

Right now they are operating out of their umbrella cart, but they hope in the next couple of weeks to have a food truck in operation.  At that time, I’m sure their operation will expand as will the food choices.  After listening to Sandra talk about Noel’s creative home cooking, I doubt he’s going to stop with one hot dog.

For right now, they offer this incredible hot dog with a few choices.  First off, the dogs are all beef Kosher dogs and they are wrapped in bacon (Kosher and bacon, I know I know) and then grilled to perfection on the flat griddle.

When the dogs are almost done and the bacon crisped around them, Noel throws some sliced onions onto the griddle and sprinkles them with powdered sugar to make them nice and sweet.

Then the hot dogs are nestled in some spectacular warmed buns, topped with the grilled onions, slices of avocados, your choice of mayonnaise, mustard or ketchup and ..if you want true bliss…

Try the “green sauce”.

The green sauce is a tomatillo and habenero based sauce that packs a good amount of heat but is delicious!

We ordered the onions, avocado, green sauce and mayo.

These came with a drink and chips for $6.  The chips are spicy pork rinds. You can a variety of soda or bottled water for your drink.

After one bite of the generous sized hot dog, we knew we wanted more…so we got another one to split.

Just looking at that picture makes me crave one right now! They are delicious!  Please remember – Hot Dog Locos is not yet open for lunch and check out the hours posted at the top of the page!

We like to take lawn chairs down and just hang out for awhile..but you could stop by and pick one up to go.

Ride your motorcycle in.

Sit under an umbrella.

Whatever you do, try out one of these amazing dogs soon.
