Going Missing For Awhile?

May 3, 2010Katie

I might be a little incognito for a day or two.

Mostly due to this.

And this.

And oh yes….this…

Friday I went to my middle child’s college to pick up “the last of her stuff” which she assured me was “not very much”.

We had made plans for her roommate and I (and another friend Lauren) to go to lunch.  We ate at a Thai place nearby.

Then the girls said their last farewell to Lauren, cuz schools out at ORU!

But Brettley and Kayla are staying, because they’re going on a 6 week mission trip for Worship Missions to India.

I thought I was going to spend some quality time with them.  I was going to  load the “last of her stuff” in my SUV and to hit the Whole Foods store and do some shopping for the mission trip she’s going on.

Well we visited Whole Foods, and I fell in love with that store.  We MUST have one in Oklahoma City.  I am starting a petition.  Do you hear me Whole Foods?  I cannot live without you.  I picked up some veggie chips that are highly addictive.  Just look at this.

Then we went to Target and bought her enough white v-neck shirts, Pepto Bismol tablets and snacks to survive in India for 40 days.  Then we returned to the dorm to gather up “the last of her stuff” and pack it into my car.

I walked into her dorm and was horrified to see the entire room still full of stuff.  Now, mind you, she had to be OUT of her dorm by the next day.  I had come without Mr. Wonderful thinking the words “last of my stuff” meant a few bags and books.

TWO hours later of using a dolly to move severely heavy things and bags and bags of clothes, books, food, and other items down 5 flights, down a very LONG sidewalk and out into a parking lot, I found myself asking the same question over and over.

“Why in the world did you have THIS in your dorm room?”

My car was packed from floor to ceiling and wall to wall.  The passenger seat was stacked with garbage bags full of clothing and bedding.  Shortly before I left, she remembered that I need to also take both of her guitars as well.  We wedged one of them in at the top and every time I stopped at a stop sign on the way home, the doggone thing flew forward into the back of my head.

I was leaving Tulsa for Oklahoma City at 10 P.M. and I was tired.

Dead tired.

And it was dark, and I was alone and couldn’t see out of my rearview mirror or my passenger side mirror.

I have never been so glad to see my driveway.  Or my house.  Or my bed.

I haven’t been the same since.

Sunday, I curled into a ball on the living room floor and sucked my thumb, while whimpering.  Luckily, I had 4 teenage boys who spent the night and they unloaded my car in 5 minutes flat.  I put the stuff into my daughter’s bedroom and shut the door, where it will remain shut until she returns from India on June 20th.

Please allow me time to recuperate.

Thank you for your patience.

P.S.  Should I be worried about the people in India these girls are going to “help”?

I agree, Katie. The Wholefoods store in Tulsa is awesome. I love that store and could spend hours there. Take time to rest and get your thumb back out of your mouth. Good thing Mr. Wonderful didn't go. You would have had to leave him there in order to move all her stuff home. Or tie him on top. What day do they leave for India? I will kept your daughter and the group in my prayers! Hugs!

Oh, my word! LOL! You do need some time to rest after that. Whole Foods is awesome. I don't go very often though. I don't like leaving my little 'burb unless absolutely necessary. Hey, today over at The Rhok (www.therhok.com) our MckLinky Monday is about proposals. I think you should like yours up. You'll have quite a few who will come and check it out. =) It's a great story. Enjoy your little mini-break.
