While in Michigan, I had time to relax, sit outside and take a lot of photos.
Did you know it’s extremely difficult to get pictures of young people without an electronic device being captured in the photos?
Take this girl, if it wasn’t her high tech iPod Touch, it was this vintage record player that she remembered listening to when she was little.
And there were dogs. Here’s my son holding my brother’s dog Charlie.
Charlie looks extremely happy doesn’t he? “Uncle Conner, Charlie is upside down, and choking to death…put me DOWN please?!”
And here’s my daughter with her baby Max, who made the 20 hour car trip with us to Michigan.
Note the crazed look on Max’s face as well. You just try to be a dog in a car for 20 hours.
I got Tori to pose a lot on this trip.
Did you see the movie Up? Remember the bird they called “Kevin”? This is my other daughter’s famous “Kevin” face.
And then there is Mr. Wonderful.
Now I don’t want to say he’s a ham or anything…
I mean, seriously, the man was never at a loss to entertain himself, or us for a photo.
It was fun to see these three guys together…my Dad, my son and my nephew.
I mean, these two boys are, shall we say, a little “off the wall” and it was funny to see my Dad’s delayed reactions to their weird sense of humor.
Hey Dad, it’s okay, you don’t have to pretend to get them…no one else does!
This is me and my brother Steve..
Steve is solely responsible for spraining every one of my fingers while growing up, as well as locking me in the basement, flicking me with a rattail towel, and thwacking me in the ear every time he walked by me.
It’s all good though. It’s because of him I am the tough cookie I am today.
This was all of us at Frankenmuth, a German Bavarian town near my parents’ house that we always visit and eat at when we go to Michigan.
Did I mention that we have focus problems in my family? Look, my mom is the only one facing towards the camera…yep, we’re not the brightest bunch in the lot by any means.
Hey Conner, we’re taking a picture over here…ya wanna turn around? Well at least two people in my family are with it and were looking in this one, but we lost Mom this time.
Something sort of funny happened right about then.
We were right in the middle of taking this family photo. And we were in front of this covered bridge, cuz, well…it was pretty.
In the background of where we stood was this beautiful scenic view of a river, historic buildings and a riverboat.
These two ladies were driving their car into the bridge and drove right in between Mr. Wonderful, who was snapping the photo, and all of us, who are the other side of the road, posing for the photo…. and stopped. Right in between us. My mom, not really realizing what was going on in the craziness of trying to get everyone organized for the photo, yells at her, “HEY, we’re trying to take a picture here!”.
Keep in mind, this was within 4 feet of the car, and did I mention the window was down in the car?
Now, she said she was joking. Maybe she was joking. We’ll never know, but this lady turned three shades of red, and began spewing out words I won’t repeat to you, all within a few feet of where we all stood posing like this.
Note my scrunched up shoulders and frantic expression as we continued to try and pose while inside we were all freaking out…
“Is this lady going to jump out and shoot us?”
“Why did my Mom just do that while we’re trapped up against this bridge with nothing to do but jump over the edge 20 feet into the water below?”
“Which one of my family members can I use as a body shield if that crazy women in the car comes after me?”
Luckily, the woman sped up and drove away.
But not before, Mr. W added to the merriment by snapping her photo AND her license plate as she drove away while hollering “I got her picture!”
Probably in case there was a murder and we needed evidence.
Never a dull moment in my family.
