Nasturtium the Edible Flower
Would you eat a flower?
Really would you?
I consider myself a pretty major foodie, and the two items that I am going to try this year -
#1 Stuffed Squash blossoms
#2 Nasturtiums
Nasturiums are in the same plant family as watercress, which my friends, is fully edible.
I”m just going to confess to you that I haven’t eaten a flower…
Ever.
Something in my head says “flowers are to be smelled, not chomped on”.
My head isn’t always the best thing to listen to.
If you’re looking for a flower to plant from seed, this is one that you can’t really fail at.
Unless you go to Europe and don’t water it for a month.
Plant these very large seeds in the spring….and by early June, you’ll have these.
My kids used to plant these when they were little. I knew it was a 100% success rate of working. Now I plant them around my herbs to add some flowers to my herb garden.
Try Nasturtiums! I love them!

I plant them and eat them!! I plant nasturtium, johny-jump-up violas, and calendula (for the petals) in the herb garden and put the flowers on our salads! If I plant borage in the herb garden, I use that beautiful blue flower, too.

Katie, you might want to try fried dandelions sometime. My cousin’s husband made them for me a couple years ago when we were in Ohio visiting. They were really quite good!
