Signs of Spring
It’s spring around here…and I’ve already told you I’ve got the outdoor bug.
Today I planted 4 Early Girl tomato plants due to the promise of a 50 day maturity.
I don’t mind telling you that 50 days seems like a LONG time, but really that’s just at the end of April….right?
I am dreaming of these darlings fresh, with salt and pepper in a little more than a month!
Mr. W doesn’t know this yet but this is the before picture of our next “project”.
Eventually, the “remake” of this will be a fully stoned 8 or 10 foot round patio with a built-in stone fire pit with a cooking grate over it. Just imagine…bringing home a couple of live lobsters to throw on there for date night…or when the throng of teens are over on Mondays, burgers and dogs and s’mores! I’m picturing handbuilt benches encircling the entire thing. Please help by leaving a comment and giving me some thoughts?
The daffodils have been blooming and are actually starting to wilt a little.
When Mr. Wonderful and I purchased our house 5 years ago, there was a tree blocking the view of the front of the house that I thought needed to come down. But after one look at it, my mother-in-law said, “You can’t cut that down! I think that’s a tulip tree.”
“What the heck is a tulip tree?” I asked.
This is the tulip tree she was referring to.
Only it’s not a tulip tree. It’s called a Saucer Magnolia, and in about a week or so, it will be covered with these tulip-like lavender flowers.
Aren’t they beautiful?
You know who else thinks these thing are beautiful and enjoys sitting in front of the house and enjoying them?

At first I thought your 50 day promise was the project! The tomatoes would be the better bet… ha!

Lol! The kitty looks miffed because she’s back outside! My advice is to make the patio bigger rather than smaller, cuz you’ll wish you did later.

Dina – on nice days she wants to be outside! We try to get her back in and she runs away from us!
Stacy – yes a regular Manolia has much bigger waxier leaves and a different flower! It’s hard to wait for Spring isn’t it up there? I’m originally from Michigan!

I recognized the Magnolia. My grandmother had a huge Tulip tree in her backyard. It was a grand tree and I wouldn’t cut one down, but they are I believe, much larger than a magnolia and the flowers are pale green and orange. They are a poplar tree. You’ve got me itching to be working in the yard, but we’ve got a few more weeks to go here in PA.
