Rollo Pecan Pretzel Treats

Ok – I’m sure I’m the last person in the world to know about these…

The evil college girls taught me these this weekend.

Actually Brettley (my daughter’s roommate and BFF) was the culprit.  Her mom Brennan had taught her over a break.

Fill up a cookie sheet with pretzels and then lay a Rollo candy in the center of each pretzel.

Pop these into a 300º for 5 minutes.  Then remove them, and if desired, gently press a pecan half in the center of the melty chocolate Rollo.

Let cool and harden.  We didn’t stick to this plan very well and started eating them right off the pan while they were still melty. Just for fun, we sprinkled a tiny bit of sea salt flakes on some as well.

I looked on the web and found some really cute ideas for these during seasonal times…

Instead of pecans use candy corns at Thanksgiving, or red and green M & M’s at Christmas.  Or multi-colored M & M’s anytime! Or how about some  peanuts for a little more salty sweet fetish?

It looks like they used those striped Kisses intead of Rollos for the Christmas ones.

These little things are delicious and addictive.  The pan was gone in less than 5 minutes.

Got any other ideas for these little babies?  I’ll be making these now for a long time!

YUM!

+1 on the M&Ms version, ditto on the ‘eating while melty!’ Why wait? ;-)

Katie – you are not the last one to know about these! I just discovered them at Christmas :) They are wonderful! I like the pecan ones the best but the others look festive, especially for the kids :) At Christmas, we used the holiday shaped pretzels (trees, bells, stars). They were so cute!
I love the candy corn idea for fall – I will definitely have to make those!!

Katie — These are wonderful! I’ve only known about them 3 years myself. They are a “requested”, “must-have”, “staple” holiday treat from Thanksgiving through New Year’s in our family. One tip – the Snyder’s brand pretzel squares (small checkerboard square) actually work much better. Not all the grocery stores have them. Buy For Less near Baptist Hospital and Homeland at May/Britton Rd both do. Also, Sam’s carries large bags of the Rolo candies and the price is a much better value than the small bags at the grocery store. I just freeze what I don’t use. Hope the tips help! Thanks for all the “good food news” :)

Karen – thanks for the tips! I saw the square pretzels in some pictures! And the bigger bag is a must seeing as they disappear so quickly!
