How to Detail a Lobster

Warning, objects in mirror are dumber than they appear.

Okay, you know I love to keep it real in bloggerland and let you know how imperfect I am right?

This is a funny story from our dining experience at Mickey Mantle’s.

My entree that evening was the African Lobster Tail, which was one of the most delicious things I’ve ever eaten.  It came out perched atop of its gorgeous reddish/orange tail with a perfect lemon half that was wrapped in gauze to hold in the seeds.  A light sprinkling of chopped parsley conffeti dotted the plate. The entire thing was a masterpiece that was just almost too beautiful to eat.  It was so special, that it came with not one, but two kinds of drawn dipping butter.  This thing was sooo special.

Courtney, our waitress left and came back and said she was going to detail my lobster.

I was curious, as was Mr. Wonderful.  Just look at the curiosity on our faces.

Would she squeeze something wonderful over it or cut it up for me? After all, this gem of the South African cold water seas deserved some extra special detailing don’t you think?  Mr. Wonderful could hardly stand his curiosity and leaned forward in expectation.

And then Courtney started detailing. I smiled slightly in anticipation. What would she do?

Courtney took a pair of tongs…

And lifted the lobster off of the bright tail.

And placed it on the plate….

And then…

she removed the tail to a towel she was holding.

Look at my face in that picture above..it’s starting to dawn on me.  And she straightened up my plate by moving things around a bit.

She wasn’t “detailing” my lobster.

She was de-TAILING my lobster.

SO, we pretty much felt like we fell out of the stupid tree and hit every branch on the way down.

But hey, now that we know how to, we can tell you how to detail de-TAIL a lobster.
